“ഈ ഇരുപതു വർഷം ഞാൻ നിന്‍റെ അടുക്കൽ പാർത്തു; നിന്‍റെ ചെമ്മരിയാടുകൾക്കും കോലാടുകൾക്കും ചനനാശം വന്നിട്ടില്ല. നിന്‍റെ കൂട്ടത്തിലെ ആട്ടുകൊറ്റന്മാരെ ഞാൻ തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞിട്ടുമില്ല. ദുഷ്ടമൃഗം കടിച്ചുകീറിയതിനെ നിന്‍റെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുവരാതെ ഞാൻ അതിന് ഉത്തരവാദിയായിരുന്നു; പകൽ മോഷണം പോയതിനെയും രാത്രി മോഷണം പോയതിനെയും നീ എന്നോട് ചോദിച്ചു. “ഇതായിരുന്നു എന്‍റെ അനുഭവം; പകൽ വെയിൽകൊണ്ടും രാത്രി തണുപ്പുകൊണ്ടും ഞാൻ ക്ഷയിച്ചു; എന്‍റെ കണ്ണിന് ഉറക്കമില്ലാതെയായി.

“These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not cast their young, and I haven’t eaten the rams of your flocks. That which was torn of animals, I didn’t bring to you. I bore its loss. Of my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. This was my situation: in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep fled from my eyes.
